How Solar Impacts Property Value
Homes with solar energy systems sell for more than homes without solar energy systems according to increased-property-values. The property value for homeowners increases when solar energy systems are installed. Studies have shown that homes valued relatively close to other homes that have installed solar systems have sold for less. The study analyzes the sale of homes with solar systems installed in eight different states over the course of 11 years. The goal was to determine how much value solar energy can add to the home’s sale price. In conclusion, the study found that having a solar system installed can add about $24,000 to a homes sale value. Not only do homeowners recoup their investment, but also there are premiums available to maximize the return on the investment. The real estate industry is moving in a direction to enhance their methods of valuing properties with solar systems.
